During my lectures, many students got confused at some points and I could always see Mr. Caleb help them explain during breaks. In the meanwhile, I must admit that Mr. Caleb was a bit impatient sometimes.

（六）如果可能的话，推荐者最好与你修的科目或学校相关。譬如说：如果你将来计划主修英文，最好推荐人之一是英文老师。又如，如果你申请常春藤名校（IVY LEAGUE SCHOOL），推荐者若也是常春藤名校出身，则其推荐信将更有力。

二、推荐信的内容

推荐人对被推荐人的基本评价。侧重于被推荐人的专业基础、个性、特点、工作态度和在学术上的前途估计。若是推荐研究生，推荐人还需进一步说明其深造学习的基础和当前所具备的研究能力。显然，恰如其分地评价被推荐人的基础、能力和前途，比言过其实的赞誉更令人情服，更具有实际意义。
推荐人可以着重介绍被推荐人曾经获得的奖励，发表过的论文，参加过的重要学术会议，以及曾在学生组织或学术团体中的任职等来支持自己的评价。
推荐人还必须清楚地表明被推荐人留学的身份是研究生还是访问学者，专业领域和研究方向是什么。
如果大学提供了现成的推荐表格，则必须按这类表格认真逐项填写。推荐表格中一般有学生综合评估的一项，即要求推荐人说明该生在所教的学生中应列为前5％，10％，或25％等。这种评估是指教授的个人评价，可以稍高一点。另外，推荐表格上常有许多难以填写的项目，遇到这种情形可填"I don't know"，亦不致对该生的评价有何严重影响。

GPA计算方法是各科成绩按等级乘以学分再以总学分除之。以百分制为例，90至100为A等于4.0，80至89为B等于3.0，70至79为C等于2.0，60至69为D等于1.0, 60分以下为F等于0分.例如某学生的五门功课的学分和成绩为:A课程四个学分，成绩92（A），应该得点数为4*4=16，B课程三个学分，成绩80分（B），应得点数3*3=9，C课程两个学分，成绩96（A），应得点数2*4=8，D课程六个学分，成绩70（C），应得点数6*2=12，E课程三个学分，成绩89（B），应得点数为3*3=9。以上五项成绩GPA=[（4*4）+（3*3）+（2*4）+（6*2）+（3*3）]/（4+3+2+6+3）=3.0

2） 个人陈述是比较重要的申请文件，申请人应该把自己求学心路，将来计划写出来，让美国大学认为你是比较合适的申请人。
3） 一般大学要求提供三封推荐信；推荐信一般也要求由推荐者发送到大学的入学办公室。现在也有一些大学提供表格，让你的推荐人在表格签名确认推荐你。在找推荐人的时候请认真考虑您对他们的了解程度，您与他们的关系，和他们在学术界和商界的声誉。推荐人的学术领域或技术背景最好是与申请人申请科系相同。另外亦可委托与学校当局或学校评审委员关系密切的人撰写。
4） 每个大学在ETS都有代码，你可以通过ETS发TOEFL，GRE，或者GMAT成绩到你所报读的大学，现在最流行的办法是填写信用卡资料，考号和学校代码等资料在表格上传真到ETS要求发送成绩。一般情况下，托福要到达550分或以上才能达到硕士的入学要求，很多学校本科入学要求500分。
5） 外国学生到美国读书要求有足够的的资金，而且需要找一位具有一定经济能力的人为作为担保。在填写申请表的时候，美国大学一般要求你填写经济担保表，并且要求银行确认。过往的经验是国内的银行一般不会在一张英文的文件上确认，通常的做法是到银行开具存款证明。
你可能选择要申请5-10所大学，如果是这样请以表格形式列出各个学校所要求的全部文件和所有测试。包括申请截止日期，并且要着重注明这一日期。没有什么事比您花费大量的时间和精力准备您的申请，但却错过了申请截止日期更令人沮丧的了。要请您特别注意的是大多数美国大学对海外学生的申请截止日期和对于其本国学生是不同的。而且有许多美国大学的学期制也是各有不同的，不同学期制大学的截至日期自然也各不相同。所以请您务必记清适用于您的截至日期。确认您的申请具备专业性和条理性。您的个人陈述和其他个人资料必须是用打字机打出的，建议您用Anal字体。在每页的顶端打上您的短文题目和您的姓名。
出于时间和安全的考虑，我们建议您使用快递或挂号信的方式递送文件。与学校联系确认您的全部申请资料已被接受，没有任何遗漏。
申请学校总结提示：
1.Cover Letter：向校方说明全部资料已准备齐全，现在一起寄出，希望校方认真考虑并给予回音。
2.申请费：可到中国银行或中信实业银行办理汇票，然后把该汇票附在你的申请表上（网上申请可以通过国际信用卡支付）。
3.申请表：按照各大学的要求填写，有条件的可用电动打字机打上去，如果用笔填写，一定要写得清楚，最好在网上下载申请表，用Acrobat填写。
4. Personal Statement＆Resume：这两个文件事关你的奖学金，一定要把你的优势和成就写得充分可信。
5.论文或作品集。
6.TOEFL、GRE成绩单，复印后签上字，放入package中。
7.如果有一篇专业论文附在档案中，一定会增加录取或拿奖学金的机会。学建筑等专业的学生则应提交作品集。
8.财力证明，不管有没有钱，都要把该表填好放入申请package中，最好附上银行存款证明。
9.各学校所要求的其他资料和文件。这些文件都是要由你自己准备并寄出的。
下列文件不能出现在前段提到的大信封里，必须单独寄发：
1. Three Recommendation Letters：把三封推荐信分三个信封装好，并在信封口上请教授签上字。
2.中、英文对照的成绩单，用学校的信封封好，封口上应有学校的签章。
3.TOEFL、GRE的正式成绩单，必须安排国外的考试中心直接寄给学校。
申请入学的过程
如何申请进入研究院的步骤在申请入学的过程内有分点列明。其中有八点特别需要注意：
一、整个过程需时很久。学生应于入学前一年至一年半时开始准备。当你写信要求校方
给予你申请入学的有关资料时，应要求以空邮方式寄出。如果你有电子邮箱，更可加快
整个搜集资料的过程，但仍需切记将这些资料寄来寄去有时亦会花费不少时间。如果该
院校的截止日期为一月初，那便应提早寄出，因为圣诞节前后乃每年的邮递旺季。
二、投寄询问信或初步的申请信时，应直接寄到该校的研究所入学辨事处，要求所须资
料和入学申请表格。翻查一些升学指引（如Peterson's），找出你所选择学系的资料。
很多时，同一间院校内不同的学系（如工程系、教育系等）会有不同的地址。你亦可直
接写信到该学系的地址要求有关学科的资料。
三、小心查看申请入学的截止日期。不同的学系可能有个别的申请表和截止日期
四、给足够时间予替你写推荐信的人。切记教授们通常在十二月左右都会忙于处理学期
末的事务。有些学校要求学生将所有关于申请入学的文件全放于一个信封内。这个情况
下，更需预留额外的时间给予邮递的过程，尤当你的推荐人并非与你居于同一地方的同
学更需注意。
