沙洲职业工学院位于上海市杨浦区国定东路999号，是一所以工业设计为特色的公办全日制高等院校。学校前身是上海市工业设计研究所，创建于1956年，是我国最早的工业设计教学、科研机构。学校占地面积近30亩，建筑面积3.8万平方米，教学设备总值近2亿元人民币。目前，学校有本科生1400余人，研究生200余人。

学校开办有工业设计、服装设计、广告传媒、数字媒体、动画、影视表演5个本科专业；1个省重点建设的工学博士后流动站。近年来，学校还开办了“创意产品开发”、“创意传播”、“创意服务”3大特色方向。

作为一所以工业设计为特色的公办全日制高等院校，沙洲职业工学院始终坚持以人才培养为己任，以优化教学条件和教学方法，促进教师专业能力的不断提升，使教师成为一支真正的专家教师队伍。同时，通过不断完善课程体系，使课程内容适应时代发展的需要。目前，课程体系包括理论课、实习课和选修课3大部分。理论课是学生必修课，包括工业产品开发流程、材料物理性能、产品外形造型原理、产品表面处理原理、产品开发方法学、心理学、人体工程学、生物医学工程原理、传感原理及应用、光电子材料原理及应用、光电子传感原理及应用、光电子显微成像原理及应用、光电子显微处理原理及应用等。实习课是学生必修课，包括实习一(材料实习)、实习二(表面处理实习)、实习三(心理测量实习)、实习四(人体工效评价实习)、实习五(生物医学传感原理及应用实习)、实习六(光电子显微成像原理及应用实习)。选修课是学生选修课，包括《CAD/CAM/CAE》《ERP/MES/MES》《PLM/PDM》《RFID/USN》《CIMS/CAPP》等。
